Hi Scott!
Just wanted to let you know I am loving your postings - always great information. Can you at some time in the future talk about how all calories are not created equal? I have found the best success in my on going struggle with weight to be with Weight Watchers. The program works on a point system and points are given to food items based not just on calories but where those calories are coming from ie the number of grams of protein and fibre vs the number of grams of fat and carbs. For example a medium croissant with a tsp of butter is 270 calories and equals 7 points but 1 poached egg, 1 slice of whole wheat toast with a tsp of butter and 3 oz of lean ham is 270 calories and only 6 points. I know which choice I would rather have and which one will satisfy me more!
Thanks Scott! You are doing a great job!

Even though I tend to lean more towards using free weights, using machines isn't necessarily wrong. It depends on the situation. eg. machines for acute rehab.

Great post. Most people see the free weights and machines in the health clubs and private studios. However, I am sure most have no clue what the difference is. Good job breaking down each. I couldn't agree with you more. Free weights give you so much more efficiency with your workouts. Thanks for the info
